Howl (2015) | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Engagingly sympathetic portrayals of stoical working women and harassed railway guards keep us on side as the action rattles through familiar generic junctions. Rated: 3/5 Oct 18, 2015 Full Review Howl (2015) | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Kate Muir Times (UK) Soon it all gets bloody as the (somewhat unconvincing) lycanthrope goes loco on the locomotive. Rated: 2/5 Oct 15, 2015 Full Review Howl (2015) | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Emma Wolfe SpookyAstronauts All the characters were utterly annoying... the second thing was the cheese factor in this movie was very high. Rated: 3/10 Apr 30, 2021 Full Review Howl (2015) | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Emilie Black Cinema Crazed The cast is good, the characters varied, and so are the attack scenes within the film's limited settings. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 19, 2020 Full Review Howl (2015) | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Joey Keogh Wicked Horror Although Howl is very funny throughout, it's also gory and bloody and often quite frightening, at the same time. Regina P Well, it passed the time. Using that metric, it did the job. And there are movies so bad, that it elongates time. This was not that bad. It was cheap horror that worked. It did what it was supposed to do. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review Hugo S An overnight train departing London is forced to make an emergency stop after hitting an animal. Surrounded by a forested area, the passengers are stalked by werewolves. A fight for survival begins and most of the passengers will not make it to the end of their journey. "Howl" sets the right tone in creating the ideal environment: the train cars are claustrophobic, the forest is menacing, and the storm only adds to the chaos and violence that lurks outside. The movie proves that a simple plot enriched by a strong setting is sometimes enough to deliver effective terror. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review samuel mychak M I liked it. A lot. I am a train guy and you were on a train in this film. Some reviewers had trouble with the characters . I disagree. Well done. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/13/24 Full Review Monkorn U The premise is good, but what hindered the 5-star rating was the characters. Almost all of them are highly unlikeable, which at times make you root for their horrible deaths. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review Ari B Nothing dull about this one! I've never been a fan of werewolf movies but this was great! Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/24 Full Review Jeff M I'm not a horror movie fan in general, but I've been working overtime to find an unheralded gem in this genre as we prepare to celebrate Halloween in a week. And unlike U2, I think I found what I was looking for. I never heard a single solitary thing about this movie before it came up in my queue, and it must have been fate that had me dive in and give it a go. This is a tense, terrifying and overall terrific movie that pretty much hooked me from the opening scenes and never let go. There are lots of twists and turns and surprises so I'm going to keep this as brief and succinct as possible. Unlike many films of this ilk, I found myself very deeply caring about the outcome for the majority of these characters, many of whom go through arcs that are uncommon in horror movies. Perhaps since the cast is filled with total unknowns, at least to my knowledge, I found myself relating to them as characters rather than celebrities playing characters. Often when the creatures or villains in these movies are eventually revealed, there can be a bit of a letdown. I can honestly say that I became increasingly terrified throughout and had no idea where this was going, up through the applause-worthy final shot. As I said, horror is not my preferential genre, but I can see this becoming a regular staple around this time of the year from now on. Bravo!
